The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four separate personas, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity standing could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
