The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
