The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

No fewer than 16 lives perished and over 40 sustained injuries when assailants fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, officials have announced the number of fatalities stands at 16, including one of the alleged attackers. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were transported to the hospital.

The victims have not yet been publicly named, but investigators think their ages are from 10 and 87 years of age.

Here are the individuals who are known to date.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Described as a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member remarked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She described the events before the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.

The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, the Foreign Minister expressed that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the message read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was also killed during the attack, as per multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, many remain receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. The injured comprise two officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He said he listened to “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
