Lacking that photograph, taken at a gathering in 2001, few would have credited the claims of a adolescent who stated she was trafficked across the Atlantic and compelled to have cursory sexual encounters with a prince of the royal bloodline?

A strange, telling action by someone who had openly asserted to have never known about her, claimed he could no have had intimate contact with her, and yet handed over a substantial sum of his mother's money to resolve a long-delayed court action.

A Long Period of Controversy

Against this backdrop, conversations of the monarchy acting decisively to cut Andrew off are inaccurate. This scandal has endured for the better part of 15 years since that picture, and a further image of Andrew walking amiably with a notorious individual surfaced.

Over time the last 190 years trying to overcome the image of past sovereigns, showing they are useful, accountable and responsive to their citizens.

Andrew was putting all that in peril in an age when deference and secrecy is no longer enough.

The Fallout

Ultimately, the well-known uncertain king was pushed more. There was little choice. The palace had lost control of the narrative.

Presently the loss of titles and the continued and permanent social disgrace that will afflict Andrew the most.
