Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
