Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period like this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
