Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
